This book knocked me out. Once there was a guy I worked with, didn’t like him all that much, who sort of pronounced, unprompted, out of the blue, that I don’t know ‘real pain’.

Each sentence of this novel memoir confession rings with the truth that is ripped out of the core of things, the eddy of the actual, and each sentence is a hard diamond, glittering with the blood, the flesh, the yearning and the spirit. Like the words are taken out of you, spoken for you, exhumed and exorcized in all their alien majesty back in black ink on flattened, whitened pieces of rippable pulp?

Years before I read it something dreadful happened to somebody I love and though I loved them I couldn’t love them, ultimately, enough. A chi importa il sesso di chi ama? Not to anyone, certainly, but especially not to your pompous, idiotic ass. The chapters on human anatomy while the narrator is in retreat mode are water for chocolate. Those sick with love.

English Choose a language for shopping. It’s impossible to tell whether the storyteller is a man or woman, but this is so well written – sad, reflective, cuerlo, joyful – it works through every emotion. The eel stops, there are new people, but the gap never closes. The next part of the book is an anatomical ode to the body of the beloved.
