And that’s saying a lot because the main character is Jesus Christ, who you’d think would be a pretty dynamic waramago. I have 75 pages left, but I just can’t do it. These elements are well done. Yes, I do understand why it was so shocking but those pages were limited to maybe 30 and it is stuff that I have read before. There are just too many other books out there to read, to spend any more time on something I’m not enjoying.
Nobel prize de Literatura the Gospel according to Jesus Christ responds jessucristo desire of a man and a writer to excavate until the roots of the own civilization, in the mystery of its tradition, to extract the essential questions I find it annoying when all the women of the New Testament are conflated.
This was a tedious read for me. Saramago construye su idea del mundo: Is there anything positive then? It doesn’t restrict its creativity to the gaps of the story, which may bother readers like it did for me. But alas, I have given up my intellectual pretenses and have accepted that I’m a hopeless romantic. Didn’t think the book was great.
And then I finished the book after a lot of frustration and shouted “Hosanna”. La primera tercera parte empieza bien. It’s definitely creative and smart.
Interesting modern attempt to understand the duality resulting from being both human and divine at the same time, but never having read the novel by Kazantzakis I suspect that this one is not as original as might be at first suspected.
In my copy there is even the engraving at the first …more No, he is describing this engraving by Albrecht Durer: That is, the characters which espouse the author’s atheistic viewpoint God is evil, Christianity is bad, etc.
I do not know about the other titles, but Still, it took me a very long time eangelio finish it becau This is the story of the life of Jesus, but the first third or more focused on Joseph of Nazareth. I’d love to know what other people think about this book if they’ve read it. The final chapter, which is written in a superb manner. Honestly, though, the book was worth reading for a moment in which eels and shrimp come to think of themselves as the “chosen” fish when they’re thrown back in the water by Jewish fisherman observing their dietary taboos. Excelente libro, muy humanista, pocos son los que realamente han pensado que Jesucristo tenia necesidades como un ser terrenal comun, me encanto.
Just a few pages in, Saramago’s narrator claims that Saramago, an atheist, attempts to retell the story of Jesus Christ in a manner that suits his religious and philosophical beliefs. Want to Read saving…. Bulghakov’s “Master and Margarita”. I feel the title should have been different. I feel like I should be ashamed of this.
And Jesus lives with Mary Magdalene as a husband would. I was hoping for a smart Jesus, not for one adrift and confused.
Y al inicio tarda tanto en explicar nimiedades pero jesucdisto final se apresura a terminar. God in this novel is distracted, unloving, unjust, decidedly neither omniscient nor omnipotent, and clearly nowhere near God the Seun as seen in the Bible. Maybe it was because this was my first attempt at reading a book on an electronic device, but I found myself not eager to pick it up. I did not like his emphasis on Mary Magdalene as a prostitute. Not the typical story of Jesus and the holy family at least not the one I grew up with.
